Types of knives you will ever need in your kitchen

1. Chefs knife or French knife: The most important tool used while cooking.

Eight inches (20 centimetres) in length and 1 & 1⁄2 inches (3.8 cm) in width, although individual models range from 6 to 14 inches (15 to 36 centimetres) in length.

2. A paring knife: A must have small all-purpose knife.

Between 6 to 10 cm (2½ to 4 inches) long

3. Bread or Serrated knife: Used to cut soft bread without crushing it.

Between 15 cm and 25 cm (6 and 10 inches)

4. Santoku Knife: A general-purpose kitchen knife originating in Japan similar to chefs knife. The term Santoku may refer to the wide variety of ingredients that the knife can handle: meat, fish and vegetables, or to the tasks it can perform: slicing, chopping and dicing. An optional knife.

Between 13 and 20 cm (5 and 8 in) long

5. Butter Knife: They have a dull cutting edge and are generally used for spreading.
